(holger behn) delivers an epic twist to the cut, widening out the spaces and adding his own techy signature to the original. re.you offer up another flavour altogether, maintaining the iconic synth pulse of the source but introducing an infectious, driving groove. dubspeeka throw a bit more grit in into proceedings with a tough, machine funk mix, while andre winter himself reworks his classic into a slow burning groover that effortlessly showcases the elements that make this track so timeless.

astute wax enthusiast brothers vibe brings forth the third installment of his mixx split series, meant to cast light on what the multi-label boss is notorious for: soulful house music! also signing the opening track 0.95lonliness , the american prodigy takes us on a deep incursion, skillfully layering classic house beats over uplifting sounds into a heart racing groove. newcomer eddie merced follows up with a deep and dreamy offering, infusing trancy vibes into a futuristic bassline for a full 6:29 minutes of midtown cruisin . delving further into the deep ambient realm, japanese producer tominori hosoya doles out some tribal sounds for his spatial track -paradise-. closing tune -deep space- gives away just a bit of the surprise in its title, as george p injects his signature tech house oomph in a contrasting murky bassline.

in the space of two short years shlømo has quickly established himself alongside the likes of marcelus, bambounou, francois x and the antinote records crew as a key figure in paris’ current techno generation. having established his own taapion records label in 2013 and built a roster around a core of local producers including roman poncet, pvnv and antigone, in addition to enlisting stephen brown, conforce and sterac as remixers for the label’s releases so far. for its fifth release, bright sounds - run by fellow parisian kennedy smith - revisits last year’s rechaïm ep (bsrx003), with a trio of remixers offering their own takes on shlømo’s established deep and expansive sound. first up is the aforementioned 50 weapons artist bambounou, who offers a dynamic groove-based version of the title track that bounces along an elastic kick drum with cut-up fragments of the original’s atmospheric pads providing further impetus. label owner kennedy smith takes on theory is the worst by bringing its dub textures to the for while filling the track’s empty spaces with intricate drum patterns. finally, italian techno pioneer donato dozzy turns grounded queen into a classic dozzy slow-burning techno trip, with his trademark layered sound complimenting the track’s subtle rhythmic backbone.

serge devant returns to the forefront with always on my mind for damian lazarus crosstown rebels, complete with remixes from kornél kovács and pirupa. first heard on lazaruss essential mix in 2015 and much requested since, always on my mind has been causing tremors in its wake. oceanic waves of melody frame muted vocals from ali love, resulting in a chiselled classic bridging the splintered sounds of today.

following two ep releases on delusions of grandeur the time felt right for thatmanmonkz to get working on his debut lp. the sheffield b-boy is no newcomer to production having been releasing music since the mid-noughties but has seen a definite rise in interest the last few years following essential releases on his own shadeleaf label as well as remixes and productions for the likes of classic, kolour ltd and kon’s startime.

matt edwards pyramids of mars label is ready to unleash a fifth release, this time featuring three subtle but high impact slo-disco tracks from the boss himself under his rekid moniker. by now edwards is rightly acclaimed for many different things: the stewardship of his tastemaking labels, his own elongated club cuts for the likes classic & rekids and his more experimental collaborations, not to mention his critically acclaimed lp on the legendary soul jazz label. here he showcases his fun and functional side with a trio of tantalising tracks aimed squarely at the rump.

mark e last delivered on futureboogie back in november 2014, so it’s a welcome return to the label for the birmingham based dj & producer. with his merc imprint running on full steam, and previous releases on revered labels like spectral sound and running back, mark is becoming an ever dependent exponent of the real and raw house music vibe, and no more so than on the basement trax ep. basement trax 1, distorted synths wander over a low-slung beat, the marching hi-hats and filter work are tweaked to perfection. it’s a track of basic elements, but done so well, the arrangement building steadily and bags of warmth and soul deep at the heart of this track. the gnarly bass and classic string sounds of basement trax 2 make an ideal companion piece to the a side. delivered in the finest wild-pitch tradition, the raw sounding production packs a punch as the stomping drums and repetitive keys ramp up the heat for a real blazer of an underground club cut.

turning into the home stretch, figure hands the penultimate release of its spc-series to an anonymous yet auspicious talent.on his first output under the ubx127 guise, the producer reveals his wares, combining classic bleep techno with just the right dose of acid. the four driving tracks thrive on their distinct synth-modulations, each scurrying atop a firm groundwork of brooding basses. apparent analogue sequencing pervades the whole ep, infusing it with a feeling of constant motion and liveliness.

karim sahraoui has been producing gems for many years under various names such as djinxx, soul monkey and electronique resistance. after a break 2014 saw his return to the business under his real name and producing music that is closer to him than ever. releases included the future classic eternal life ep pt 1 on derrick mays transmat and appearances on labels such as cocoon. the a-side features the epic 10-minute original version of horns of glory on which karim takes his time to unfold the story of the track: a journey filled with beautiful melodies and rhythms that paint a lush landscape of sound. side b features the earth from above which again has a fairy-tale feeling to it. the b2 is vince watsons pumping and powerful remix of horns of glory which gives the track an energetic hypnotic quality and rounds off the package well.

mono junks dum records has been dictating trends in the world of minimalistic techno since the 1990s, and its 34th release is as special as any. this one comes from label boss kimmo rapatti aka mono junk vs mesak, who is better known as fellow finn, tatu metsätähti, aka one half of mr velcto fastener and someone who has released on dexter & steffis klakson. together the pair serve up three mixes of their jam and an additional track. title track deep in my mind is a paranoid techno cut with freaky vocal riffs repeating the title as gurgling synth lines and sleek drums rumble below. twitchy synths and high pressure perc add to the hypnotic effect, and overall its easy to see this one making for some perfectly weird dance floor moments. the mix by mono junk is completely the opposite: in his hands it is a beat-less, serene and beautifully styled electro cut that takes you deep into brain soothing space. the electro mind version is then a full on electro jam, with plenty of aqueous synths and fluid lines all squiggling along in classic detroit style. final track sysdrum is back to the raw, with angsty drum lines, crisp and slapping snares and oodles of reverb all making for a brain frying trip.

nothing further can be asked of an artist by a record label than what philou louzolo has delivered to tink! music in the past year. after zolo grooves sold out with four classic status cuts, the african descendent based in rotterdam has seemed to achieve the impossible and topped his incredible ep from 2015 with a second attack, four more tracks that are pure party fire!

raam is back with a killer ep where he moves deeper into his gritty and heavy soundscape. raam 004 is solid release with influences from both detroit and chicago. alvar is a straight up chord driven banger, with classic 909 drum patterns. on the flip you will find unfold, which is a warm, spaced out chicago track, reminiscent of boo williams. brink has that magic disco flair, woofing basses and sparkling pads create a shimmering atmosphere. this track is perfect to play whenever

mr trum* wakes up at his manhattan residency a bit dizzy from his late night scotch and cigars with some right winged peers. after his classic raisin and bran breakfast, he decides to flirt with the raver community in order to win some votes for the upcoming elections. his decision seems irrevocable now, the first measure he will adopt if he gets elected is to build a wall of sound on the whole mexican border and start a macro rave under the premise of -we are all immigrants-. inspired by this extraordinary situation, 4 producers (hack force one, pau roca, scott ferguson & the enigmatic 3%) reached a sonic epiphany and the second ep of black money records emerged.

its not often you get to work with vocalists of sarah jay s calibre (massive attack/presence) so here at pft we decided to enlist some heavyweight talent to make the most of this opportunity. kicking off the second ep we have the one and only rob mello (classic/defected/crosstown rebels) on remix duties

zackey force funk was born into this wild world in tucson, az in 1974. in and out of prison since the age of 17, zff began producing on pirated software his brother gave to him once he had given up a life of crime to focus on writing tunes and raising his family. first discovered by kutmah back in the golden era of myspace, zackey’s signature “force funk sound” swiftly grabbed the attention of a number of formidable producers. as these tunes were scattered across various labels, finding their homes on their respective collaborator’s projects, zff continued to hone his style, delving deeper into the psychedelic future funk realm of which he has created for himself. the fruits of his discipline all add up to “electron don” hnr52 a 15-track collection of early productions that serves as the initial transmission of a fantastical mind that has many more stories to tell. “electron don” gathers together various unreleased and classic tracks recorded by zackey force funk circa 2009-2011 in tucson, az. included here are a treasure-trove of classic productions by the electron don himself, as well as tracks by luminaries salva, mike gao, lorn, jellphonic, cupp cave, crimekillz, mark lowe and paolo xz.

rushmore is a 1998 soundtrack to the wes anderson film of the same name. the songs mostly blend raw, adolescent urges and insecurity with an awkward grace, composed primarily of popular music from the 1960s. continuing with its soundtrack initiative, ume will be reissuing this classic soundtrack back on vinyl for the first time in years.
the 1998 wes anderson film, rushmore, starred bill murray, jason schwartzman, olivia williams, seymour cassel, and luke wilson. the soundtrack was scored by mark mothersbaugh and also features music by the kinks, cat stevens, the who, john lennon, zoot sims, faces, and more.
